February is a time when people come together to enjoy the prospect of nicer weather and warmer days ahead. To many Americans, the arrival of Spring also signifies the Easter holiday. AuPairCare Area Director Ana McGee brought au pairs, host families, and their community together for an Easter-themed activity to celebrate the new season through food, tradition, and community.
Easter is a religious holiday celebrated throughout the world, however each country does it a bit differently. On a warm and sunny February Sunday afternoon in Bedford, Texas, au pairs were able to get a flavor for how this holiday is often celebrated in the United States.
Typically, people use Easter to gather as friends and family, share food and traditions, and create connections amongst one another. To achieve a sense of community within the AuPairCare group, each host family brought a dish to share while everyone mingled and got to know each other and to give au pairs a sense of how Americans celebrate. To top it all off, au pairs participated in the American tradition of Easter egg hunts by putting one on for the host children.
The day was not only an opportunity for fun but was also a great way to build connections with each other. The Bedford community saw the beauty of cultural exchange by families and au pairs from around the world gathering and blending as one international family.
German au pair Celina thanked Area Director Ana for putting on the event, and that she is looking forward to the next Creating Cultural Connections event. The Jordan host family expressed their appreciation for events like these, as they help au pairs get to know one another and make meaningful connections during their cultural exchange experience.
Between the good weather, good food, and happy atmosphere, it was so great to see host families and au pairs sharing joy and new traditions with one another.
