AuPairCare staff in the Midwest organized an unforgettable weekend camping trip for 40 au pairs at the beautiful Hoover Forest Preserve in Yorkville, Illinois. The event, which took place over two nights, brought together au pairs from various clusters, including some who traveled all the way from Michigan to join in on the fun.
To help celebrate the end of summer, the weekend was filled with classic American camping experiences, starting with roasting marshmallows over an open fire. The au pairs stayed in traditional bunkhouses, immersing themselves in an environment that felt quintessentially American. They also enjoyed a nature scavenger hunt, discovering the beauty of the forest preserve while bonding with their fellow au pairs.
One of the highlights of the trip was the "Au Pair Olympics," where the au pairs were divided into four large teams to compete in a lively and fun obstacle course. The activities included au pair-themed challenges like diaper changing, sandwich making to a three-legged “school pick-up,” and other creative team challenges. The friendly competition had everyone cheering and working together, giving participants a sense of camaraderie and teamwork.
During the evenings, the au pairs gathered for dinner, followed by dance parties, card games, Jenga, and plenty of opportunities to make new friends. For many, this weekend was not only a chance to explore the outdoors but also a valuable opportunity to connect with other au pairs and form meaningful friendships.
One au pair commented, "It was such an amazing experience to meet so many other au pairs and take part in activities that brought us all together. The Au Pair Olympics was so much fun, and it felt great to cheer each other on."
This wonderful end-of-summer camping weekend was a great way for many different au pairs from around the world to connect, share culture, and experience new American activities. The shared experiences and teamwork helped create bonds that will last well beyond the weekend.
