This spring, 60 au pairs from 8 different countries engaged in the great American pastime - a baseball game.
Dressed in Phillies red and white, AuPairCare’s au pairs from the Philadelphia area gathered at Citizens Bank Park for a matchup against the Washington Nationals. The ladies enjoyed watching the game, laughing at the Philly Phanatic mascot, and singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
A distinctly different game than most were used to, the au pairs tried to follow the strikes, balls and outs through 9 innings. Most au pairs had never attended a baseball game before, and enjoyed the overall adventure of the food, music and fans!
"I really like the experience of going there to watch the game. It was so good to see the stadium and watch the game because it's a big part of the American culture - one of the reasons this exchange program is a cultural exchange as well," mentioned au pair Helena from Brazil.
Although the Philadelphia Phillies were left with a disappointing loss to the Nationals, the girls didn't seem to mind as they enjoyed the breadth of ballpark foods - hotdogs, Philly Cheesesteaks, fries and ice-cream.
“Events like these bring us together and allow us to discover another side of the American life," says Anne-Sophie from France. Play ball!
