In February, au pairs based in Frisco, Texas spent time volunteering at the senior citizens home, BeeHive Homes of Frisco. BeeHive Homes is an assisted living center dedicated to providing amazing care for senior citizens in the local community. Volunteers can visit the home to do fun activities, socialize, and bring cheer to the residents.
AuPairCare au pairs visited the Beehive for a Valentine’s Day activity where they spent time making Valentine’s Day cards with the residents. The au pairs wrote a note to each resident in English and in their own native language and made hand-crafted bracelets for each of the women residing in the home. Following the crafting time, the au pairs served lunch to the residents. Leanne, an au pair from South Africa stated,
The experience was truly humbling. I felt so much love and hearing their stories made me smile. We made little bracelets for them and I made one for myself that I still wear as a reminder of that day and the experience I had serving in the community.
This event was very touching to many au pairs. Buffy, an au pair from South Africa stated,
I really enjoyed the event at the senior home because I love events that have to do with giving back to the community. I love that we showed the seniors how much they matter and showered them with gifts and love. I had such a fun time and had great, heart-warming conversations with some of the seniors. What a fun experience it was!
The impact the au pairs’ visit had on the residents and staff at BeeHive was felt greatly. The BeeHive Home Director stated, “The way that you and the au pairs loved our residents is unlike anything I’ve seen from any volunteer group thus far. Thank you so much for bringing life and joy to our residents.”
This event was one that will be remembered and cherished by the au pairs as a great day of sharing cultures and stories with the amazing seniors in the Frisco community.
