For Valentine’s Day, Polish au pair, Ola, wanted to spend her time giving back to her adopted community in the US. Ola organized a group of her au pair friends and they wrote Valentine’s Day cards for a local senior home and brought smiles and joy to a group of senior citizens. Ola shared this is a typical custom she does in Poland, and she was happy to continue the tradition in the US. Ola shared,
Generally, the tradition of sending cards is very popular in Poland. Not only Valentine’s Day cards but also Christmas and Easter. This kind of activity is popular in polish schools because it encourages students to help others and practice English skills. Once students sent cards to Queen Elizabeth II.
Ola has also been happy to get other au pairs in her area involved in the tradition. AuPairCare Area Director Tatjana said,

Ola found the senior home’s call-out for Valentine’s Day Cards through social media, proving that there are still virtual ways to give back even during the pandemic. Since the senior home was in Wisconsin and the au pairs were in Missouri, they created the cards at home and mailed them. The seniors were overjoyed to receive the special treats and shared their happy reactions through pictures on social media
