Au Pair Laura and Her Host Kids Creating Cultural Exchange

One of the many great benefits of the au pair program is the cultural exchange that occurs between host families, au pairs, and their community. The impact of cultural exchange is even more impactful to host children. In the Pacific Northwest, an AuPairCare host child got to share her au pair’s culture with others at her school's cultural fair.  

The cultural fair event put on by the school was a great way to put many different cultures on display. To help her host child share her Brazilian culture, au pair Laura teamed up with her host child Natalie to put together a special presentation about Brazil, and even cooked a special Brazilian treat called Brigadeiro to share with everyone.  

Host mom Katherine said, "Natalie was very excited about this event. Not only did she help plan everything, but she also did extensive research on Brazil. During this research, she discovered many things about Brazilian culture and had a lot of fun in the process. It was wonderful to see her so involved and enthusiastic."

Brazilian au pair Laura added, "Participating in the cultural fair at Natalie's school was an incredible experience. It was a unique opportunity to learn about new cultures and share my own. While preparing the presentation about Brazil, I delved into various aspects of my own culture that often go unnoticed in daily life. Also, interacting with other cultures' presentations gave me a broader and more enriching world perspective. This cultural exchange not only expanded my knowledge but also strengthened my appreciation for cultural diversity."

The event was a great way for members of the local community to come together to learn about different cultures and allowed people to learn more about the au pair program and witness the cultural exchange benefits it provides.
