The AuPairCare Host Family Screening Process

AuPairCare screens each host family carefully, visiting the family at home before your match and arrival, conducting a background check on each adult in the household, checking employment and personal references, and ensuring host families truly embrace the cultural exchange aspect of the program as well as the rules and responsibilities to uphold to au pairs.

We take pride in selecting caring and responsible host families through a comprehensive vetting process that includes:

• Detailed applications with references and family insights
• Criminal background checks for all adult household members
• A personal in-home interview covering expectations, schedules, and childcare approaches

Host Family Requirements

To ensure a safe and enriching environment, our host families meet key requirements, including:

• U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency
• English as the primary language spoken at home
• A private bedroom for the au pair
• Adherence to work-hour limits (maximum 45 hours/week, 10 hours/day)
• Childcare-focused responsibilities with light housekeeping related to the children
• A minimum weekly stipend and up to $500 in educational support
• Transportation for classes and monthly au pair meetings
