Chicago is known as “The Windy City.” Try walking down the main roads between the high rises and you’ll quickly find out why. That’s not the only thing this amazing city is known for however. The third largest city in the United States, Chicago is a hub for culture and activity and a blend of Eastern European influence and Midwestern charm. 1. Navy Pier Chicago:

North Michigan Avenue rests in the heart of the city of Chicago. Nicknamed the Magnificent Mile, this is a destination point for people all around the world. Au pairs visiting Chicago can find almost everything here from trendy shops, restaurants, museums and more. Catch a show at the Joffrey Ballet or go to the Contemporary art museum of Chicago. The sky is the limit!

3. Millennium Park:

Finished in 2004, the Millennium Park sits in the middle of the city. A wonderful day to spend the afternoon, the park offers beautiful structures, concerts and a garden. Au pairs can find an oasis in the middle of a busy city.

What to Eat: Midwestern food can be classified as simple, yet hearty. Staples you may be used to, like pizza for instance can have a twist So while you are in Chicago be sure to try many of the fares you get some famous Chicago pizza, try Pequod's Pizza in the Lincoln Park neighborhood -it boasts as the deep dish pie locals actually eat. When to Visit: The mildest times of year in Chicago are mid-March to early June and the months of September or October. That’s when you are likely to find comfortable temperatures. Chicago winters are very snowy and cold so if you choose that time of year be sure to bundle up!

Nearest Cities: Many popular cities are within a few hours’ drive of Chicago. Milwaukee for instance offers food, culture and fun and is only about an hour and a half away.  

Nearest Airports: O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)
